What does it mean to be Still Here?

It’s a question I’ve been thinking about more and more—not only in my own work, but in the ways we learn from one another, carry traditions forward, and leave something behind for the next generation.

I’m delighted to bring my work into conversation with three artists connected to my studio: Lowell Hutcheson, Alex Bernius, and Kailey Mattus, in the exhibition Still Here at Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts in Brattleboro, Vermont.

From Lowell’s richly surfaced vessels made with locally gathered materials, to Alex’s evolving sculptural approach to functional pottery, to the abstract vessel forms Kailey and I have developed together, this exhibition explores the many ways clay holds memory, expresses change, and endures through time.

For me, these works are about more than form or material. They speak to resilience, inheritance, and the quiet persistence of making.

I hope you’ll join us and spend some time with these pieces.
