Last Chance to Experience “Grand Gestures”

Autumn is one of my favorite times to experience the garden, and there’s still time to see Grand Gestures: Monumental Vessels in the Garden at the Berkshire Botanical Garden.

Through the end of October, eight of my ceramic sculptural vessels can be found throughout the Garden, placed among its blooms, plantings, pathways, and changing autumn landscape.

Some of the vessels stand as tall as five feet, yet I hope they feel approachable and inviting - objects that invite you to pause, look closely, and spend a quiet moment with the work and its surroundings.

The changing colors of the season create an entirely new relationship between the work and the landscape, with each vessel taking on a different presence as the garden transforms around it.

For me, a “Grand Gestures” is not simply about scale. It is about the spirit behind the gesture - generosity, gratitude, awe, compassion, and love.

I’ve always been interested in how form can communicate something beyond its visual presence, and how a vessel can carry a feeling of calm, grounding, and vitality.
