Reflections on My June 2026 Advanced Sectional Throwing Workshop

June 2026 was the first time I have offered an Advanced Sectional Throwing Workshop, and I couldn't have asked for a more rewarding and mind-expanding experience. Emily, Rachel, Alek, Cora, Peter, Lou-Anne, and Dustin arrived ready to learn and hit the ground running from the very first day.

The studio quickly filled with graound-breaking large-scale forms, thoughtful conversations, and plenty of shared laughter. Watching each piece take shape was inspiring, but what made the week truly memorable was the atmosphere we created together.

With such an experienced group, our discussions naturally went beyond technique. We explored the subtle refinements that can elevate a pot from good to great—considering form, balance, proportion, and the countless small decisions that transform craftsmanship into artistry.

One of my greatest rewards teaching workshops is the sense of community that grows through shared exploratory experiences.. Bringing together dedicated makers who are willing to share ideas, take risks, and support one another creates an environment where everyone connects — as potters, as artists, and as humans. (BTW, I will welcome this same group of seven back into my studio for a reunion week in July of 2027!)
