ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Achieving large scale is not so much a matter of physical strength. More important are the selection and preparation of clay, technique to protect your body, and patient strategy. This hour-long tutorial course gives an overview of those things, and more.

The Concept

The Goal

To equip intermediate and advanced potters with the foundational logic required to transcend the limitations of traditional throwing.

The Outcome

Mastery of sectional construction, allowing for the creation of vessels of practically any size, with minimal physical strain.

Curriculum

  • Pillar I — Foundation & materials: selecting and conditioning clay bodies for structural integrity at scale.

  • Pillar II — The mechanics of the wheel: ergonomics and body positioning to ensure physical longevity and control.

  • Pillar III — Incremental construction: advanced techniques for stacking sections and managing moisture (fans and torches).

  • Pillar IV — Refinement & aesthetics: structural joins, troubleshooting saves, and finalizing the silhouette.

Program logistics

  • Access: ten high-definition video modules.

  • Flexibility: entirely self-paced, with unlimited access to the instructional archive.

  • Infrastructure: designed for any home or professional studio.

  • Investment: $300 for permanent access to the curriculum.

How payment works. Pay in full or reserve with $600 today; the remaining $1,200 follows as two monthly payments of $600, completed before your week begins. The three-payment option is offered while a session is more than ten weeks away, so the earlier you reserve, the more you may spread it. Closer in, the full $1,800 is taken at booking.

$600 HOLDS YOUR PLACE

The whole thing, divided into three, finished before you arrived.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Am I ready for this?

If you can comfortably centre and throw five pounds of clay, you are ready. The week is built for intermediate and professional potters who want to go larger. You needn’t arrive knowing how.

What’s provided

A dedicated wheel that is yours for the week, storage, shared studio tools, and all the clay you can use. You bring only yourself and your hands.

Getting here

Fly into Hartford (BDL), about an hour away. I’ll send lodging suggestions once you’re booked; most students stay nearby, and we share the studio by day.

Still unsure?

This is a small room, just seven of us. I would rather you arrive certain it’s right. Write to me, and I’ll answer myself.

A WORD BEFORE

YOU BOOK

I keep these weeks small on purpose. Seven potters mean I can stand at every wheel every day, and that we come to know one another’s work. We make big pots, but what people remember is the room.

If that’s the week you’ve been looking for, I’d be glad to have you.
