Introduction to Sectional Throwing

Weekend Workshops in Brattleboro, Vermont

This workshop was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had and by far my top pottery class! I learned so much and enjoyed our camaraderie with the whole class! Steve’s teaching style far exceeded my expectations. Thank you for such a memorable experience that will influence my path for years to come!

Achieve Scale by Throwing in Sections

Have you been wanting to make bigger pots on the wheel? If you have intermediate throwing skills you’re ready! Enrollment is limited to ensure lots of individual attention.

During a weekend of instruction and practice, you will learn how to:

  • Select appropriate clay bodies and tools

  • Make your clay easily workable

  • Minimize physical stress by positioning the body and hands strategically for working with large amounts of clay

  • Throw sections to be joined

  • Apply principles and techniques for fail-proof joints

  • Troubleshoot strategies for saving pieces

  • Use torches, fans, and other strategies for speed-drying

  • Consider basic design and composition

DATES & COST:

SCHEDULE:

  • 9:30 am - 4:30 pm daily; option for individual work after hours

MATERIALS:

You will have access to unlimited clay. The pieces you will create in this workshop are typically too large to be transported with you back home, so I will recycle the clay. If you would like to take your leather hard vessel home after the workshop, you may purchase the clay used for your vessel.
